Whale Watching

"Watching whales depends on luck but Hermanus is the luckiest place in the world to see whales!"

Theme: Whales, Culture, History & Nature.  Seasonal.  July-November

You can choose if you want to see the whales from a boat or from land. (Boat trips tend to be more successful but I have had my best observations from the cliffs.)

Highlights: The spectacular Clarens Drive, Whales, Penguins, Hermanus, False Bay, and Sir Lowry's Pass. Approximate duration: 10-12 hours.

Land based Whale watching

We drive via Franschhoek Pass to the best place in on Earth to see whales from land, Hermanus . We walk along the Cliff Path and visit Gearing's Point to look for whales. We have a look at the old Whaling station. Depending on whale activity we may also visit Siever's Point. We will enjoy lunch at a restaurant outside Hermanus.

We will visit a penguin colony and then follow the beautiful Clarens Drive and eastern False Bay coastline with wonderful views of mountains, sea and beaches.

Boat based Whale watching

We leave early and drive towards Gansbaai or Hermanus harbor where we board our "whale safari boat" manned by experienced crews and a marine biologist. Boat trips are dependent on availability and weather conditions.

The cruise takes about 2 hours. After returning to the port, we drive to a restaurant outside the capital of the whales, Hermanus for a late lunch. Then we return via the eastern False Bay coastline with wonderful views of mountains, sea and beaches.

"We were amazed by Jim's knowledge. Not only about the whales but all sorts of interesting facts, stories, and information on the drive there and back. He is professional and entertaining. We will do another trip with him. thanks!”- Lynn and family. UK. TripAdvisor. - TripAdvisor.
